Speaking for European engineering, Orgalime, represents 3 industrial branches (electrical & electronic, mechanical engineering and the metal articles & metalworking) that manufacture over 27% of total EU manufacturing output and has 35 member trade federations in 23 European countries. The industry acounted for some 1,813 billion euro in 2007. The industry not only represents more than one quarter of the output but also a third of the exports of the EU's manufacturing industries.
Companies’ expectations had weakened slightly in the course of 2006, but picked up considerably during the first half of 2007. The already rather strong business environment therefore enjoyed a further boost. As a result 2007 once again beat expectations with overall production output up an estimated 5.8 % in 2007 for Orgalime industries: this was once again a healthy growth rate, only marginally lower than that of 2006 (6.6%) and well above the long term average growth rate for the industry of 3.2 %.
