The Gas Appliances Directive (GAD) 90/396/EC relating to appliances gaseous fuels has been codified at the end of 2009.

The new reference to be used now is 2009/142/EC (OJEU 16 th December 2009).

This Directive, which is based on the New Approach, is restricted to appliances gaseous fuels used for cooking, heating, hot water production, refrigeration, and lighting and washing, i.e. it covers mainly common consumer and commercial products. In view of the revision of the Directive, the European Commission has also set up an ad hoc working group in charge of drafting the proposal in view of the revision.

At the request of its members, Orgalime has set up (in 2010) a GAD Task force to provide comments to the various committees/working groups that are taking place at European Commission level. Orgalime has also been granted a seat in the European Commission Standing Committee to act as an industry platform on this particular issue. The Orgalime task force is providing comments to the draft proposal that is being prepared. A first proposal has been presented mainly focusing on the new scope of the Gas Appliances Directive, listing the three main definitions (gas appliances, components, end-users installation) and drafting a list of exclusion.
