Orgalime activities on Clean Energy Package - strategic partner EUSEW 2017

Please note that this article is intended for Orgalime members only – thank you for not sharing it outside your organisation.

On 27 February, Orgalime published its Clean Energy Position Paper and presented it to MEPs at a European Parliament (EP) dinner event, hosted together with the European Forum for Manufacturing and featuring as a keynote speaker Mr. Ristori, Director General of the Commission’s DG Energy and our President Tomas Hedenborg.

On 7 March, following the debates in the EP and Council and ahead of the European Summit, Orgalime issued a statement calling for timely action on clean, affordable and secure energy. Considering somewhat disappointing developments in the Council, we urge Member States to come up with tangible and timely results on the Clean Energy Package.

At the EP, a series of bilateral meetings with MEPs is now underway where we are presenting our views directly to key players. Also, we are busy translating our position into concrete amendment suggestions on the different legislative files, and gathering examples of energy efficiency successes to demonstrate their relevance for the energy transition.

At the political level, we are preparing for the next meeting with Commission Vice-President Šefčovič and Orgalime’s Presidents Board on 3 May. And we are delighted to announce that on 20 June, Orgalime will be speaking at the opening session of this year’s EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) alongside Commissioner Cañete and Director General Ristori.

We are proud to have been nominated strategic EUSEW 2017 partner and so been given this prominent role and speaking opportunity, which no doubt is a reward for our excellent work on the issue. Thank you to all members for their commitment and the joint effort!
