Europe’s success depends to a large extent on the openness of the international economy, and companies from our industry need access to the world’s largest and most dynamic economies. European engineering is the world leader in many areas of technology and manufacturing. Orgalime therefore supports an EU trade strategy that focuses on shaping globalisation and improving the international competitiveness of the EU’s industrial base.
Orgalime industries represent one third of all manufactured exports from the European Union. Exports are contributing most to the recovery of European engineering, given the relatively weak demand from the European market. Our main trade partners are China and North America.
The mission of the Orgalime Trade Policy Group is to influence EU policy in the area of trade. The group also deals with problems caused by third country legislation affecting our industry. Moreover, the group regularly sends position papers and letters to the European institutions, with members of the group participating in meetings and conferences organised in the field of trade policy.
Currently, the main working items of the Trade Policy Group are:
· Bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations
· Customs policy
· Market access
· Trade defence instruments
· Dual use items
