Orgalime welcomes the European Commission’s evaluation of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC within the framework of the Regulatory and Performance Programme. However, we believe that the Machinery Directive is fit for purpose, is well implemented in all the EU Member States, and continues to contribute to the growth of the sector in the face of strong competition at global level.

In this position paper, Orgalime stresses the importance of this stable and supportive framework for the engineering industry and particularly for SMEs, in terms of helping companies continue to work and place equipment on the EU and global market. Our central message to the Commission is that the Directive works well and does not need to be revised: “if it isn’t broken – don’t fix it”!
