Public consultation: REACH REFIT evaluation

As part of its REFIT regulatory review programme, the European Commission is holding a public consultation process to invite stakeholder input on the evaluation of the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation.

This review is highly relevant to the companies Orgalime represents, as the engineering sector is a downstream user industry of chemical substances and a supplier of capital goods to all other sectors. Moreover, our industry is subject to sector-specific chemicals legislation on hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

This is why we have provided the Commission with a comprehensive response to the consultation, outlining our position on REACH as regards its effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value. Our main message is that although we see room for improvement, we do not believe there is a need to amend it at this stage – rather, efforts should be made to improve how the Regulation is implemented.
