In view of the upcoming second EU Mobility Package ‘Europe on the Move’ and the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Action Plan, the European Commission has invited stakeholder comments on alternative fuels infrastructure deployment in the EU.

Orgalime has responded to this consultation: now that the 2014 Directive on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure at EU level is in the critical implementation phase, we are calling on the Commission to include National Policy Frameworks (NPF) in its upcoming strategy that are sufficiently timely and ambitious, and contain clear targets and objectives. This will help Europe live up to both EU and international energy and climate commitments. Where loopholes have arisen, the upcoming package is an opportunity to close them.

Moreover, we see a clear link between the upcoming Action Plan and the Clean Energy Package, in particular regarding the ongoing revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the related issue of electric vehicles infrastructure deployment. Electric vehicles have an important role to play in the modernised energy system, and this should be reflected in the Commission’s strategy.
