The goals of the Alliance are:
Alliance members’ organisations represent industry sectors which are essential to the European economy:
- 6,000 large companies
- 1.7 million SMEs
- Combined turnover of nearly EUR 5,000 billion
- Generating EUR 1,300 billion added-value
- Employing some 23 million EU citizens.
The Alliance addressed the Commission and the 2005 Spring Council to welcome the “Growth and Jobs strategy” launched by the Commission, to support the view that the economy should be “first priority”, requiring “business-friendly policies, not rhetoric” and to call on the Spring European Council to take up the spirit of the Commission Report.
The Alliance published a position paper on Impact Assessment in 2004 calling on European Union policymakers and legislators to give top priority to the consistent use of impact assessments for any and all legislative proposals that will affect industry. This position paper was promoted and discussed in March 2005 at a Policy Round Table organised by the Alliance and in September 2005 another position paper was published on the Commission's Impact Assessment Guidelines launched in June 2005.
In September 2006, the Alliance held an event entitled the 'New European Industrial Policy: From Commitment to Results' where a workshop aimed at sharing views and backing the Commission's initiative to develop a more integrated approach for industrial policy in the framework of the Lisbon process.
The Alliance prepared the discussions by publishing a position paper and a brochure with concrete cases from industry.
The Council of the Alliance consists of the Executive Managers of the Members:
